How to pick an apartment in Canada is a tough thing to do before landing. Especially if you are coming to Canada for the first time. There are several things you should consider, and I will tackle each one of them below.
1- Be safe
Spammers are everywhere, even in Canada, the greatest country of all. Even here, yes, no jokes. Nowadays, everyone can open a site, place images, and start selling, even if there is nothing to sell. And sometimes, you can buy something, and when you receive it, there will be a high probability you might be disappointed by the color, shape, function, material… Some sellers are not honest, they just want to sell. So, don’t trust the internet. Do not follow the renting process online, even if the landlord shares some pictures or videos with you. The best solution would be, in my opinion, for you to be 100% sure of your decision, is to book an Airbnb for a month.
2- Why a month?
When you land, you will have many chores from SIN, to registering a new line with the internet, insurance, maybe applying for a driving license, finding a job, doing meetings, shopping, buying groceries… So you will be busy and you will need time to call and visit some apartments. Plus the process of finding an apartment and renting it is too long. If you will do that, you will have the opportunity to physically see and take the best decision that suits you.
3- Ask
Always ask people round you about how to pick an apartment in Canada, and get as much info as you can. Another important point is to ask the landlord for more details. Is there any public transportation next to the building? Is there any station near the location? Is there any mall, pharmacy, restaurant, or grocery shop near the place? Is it a safe area?
